Choral Singers - Join us for Mahler's Symphony No. 2
This year’s choral concert with the Symphony of Oak Park & River Forest is the biannual return to Orchestra Hall, with the Mahler Symphony No. 2 on the program. The concert date is Monday, April 25, 7:30 pm. The Symphony Chorus and City Voices will be joined this year by Tower Chorale and the ChiArts Senior Choir.
For those of you unfamiliar with the work, it is similar to last year’s Beethoven 9th in that the chorus appears just in the last movement, but to great effect.
Please let us know if you would be interested in taking part.
Here is the very short rehearsal schedule:
April 3 Sun 2-5 rehearsal #1*
April 10 Sun 2-5 rehearsal #2*
April 17 Sun 7:30-9:30 conductor’s piano rehearsal*
April 20 Wed 6-7 performance checks**
7-8 orchestra rehearsal**
April 24 Sun 7-8 dress rehearsal**
April 25 Mon 6:30 call / 7:30 CONCERT @Symphony Center
* Preparatory rehearsals will be held at an Oak Park location TBA
**Mandatory rehearsals
With this abbreviated schedule, it’s very important that all choristers come to the first rehearsal with the notes already learned or largely prepared. We will NOT have time to teach notes extensively at each rehearsal! With so few rehearsals, it’s obviously best not to miss any, but if it's unavoidable we will allow one absence from the first three rehearsals. Singers with more than one absence will need to do a performance check on Wednesday April 20, 6pm in order to perform in the concert.
We will be using a choral score in PDF form that you can download and print yourself (20 pages). These will be made available to you no later than January.
If you are new to Symphony Chorus or have not sung for Bill Chin individually in the last couple of years, you may be asked to do a brief audition. The dates for these vocal appointments (you need not worry about these dates unless you are asked to attend) would be:
Sep 27 Sun 1-4
Sep 28 Sat 7-10
Feb 8 Mon 7-10
Feb 20 Sat 10-1
Feb 21 Sun 2-5
Please let us know by end of day Friday, September 11, if you intend to sing. Thanks! Contact Nina Roher <nroher@juno.com>
